[edit] What is a WIKI?

Well, this site for one. A wiki is a web site that can easily be edited by anyone who can access it. This particular site requires that you log in before you can make changes. This is for two reasons. The obvious one is that it is less likely to be defaced or spammed. The less obvious reason is that most visitors might find the extra wiki tags and links to be distracting. So until you log in, you won't see them.

Brian converted this site to a Wiki so that anyone who is interested in Solar Creek could join in and edit its pages. You are encouraged to get an account!

[edit] How to get an account

If you want to edit pages at the Solar CREEK site, you need to have a wiki account. Ask for one here.

[edit] Wiki account request form

To give you an account, all we need

  your name and your
  email address

We need your email address to notify you after your account has been created. Your address will not be available to anyone unless you change your preferences after logging in.

[edit] Log in

If you have your account info, you can click on this link to log in: Special:Userlogin

[edit] Set your preferences

Do you see your login name in the top bar of this web page? If not, go to the Special:preferences page, click on 'skins' and set your skin to be 'Workerbees'.

That will give you all the edit controls; currently this means when you are logged in, you will see two extra rows of controls at the top of the page and the toolbox below the search box in the sidebar over on the left. If you see those already, you are logged in and your preferences are set.

[edit] Now you can edit pages

Once you have an account and have logged in, you should be able to edit any page in the site.

You can also back out any changes made to the site. To do so (for example to repair damage), click on the history tab, find the page version you prefer, edit and then save it.

[edit] Dive in!

If you have never edited a wiki page before, I suggest that you start by editing your own 'user' page. Do you see your username up there at the top of this page? (In red, probably.)

Click on it, then click the 'edit' tab. There you go. Tell us a bit about yourself if you wish, then click the "Save page" button. You have just created your first wiki page.

Now go do it!

[edit] Special pages

You might be interested in the Special Pages link, which appears in the toolbox when you are logged in. The one I like to check regularly is Special:Recentchanges.
